Teenage life skills checklist:                         Bookmark and Share

  • Exercise at least four times a week ?
  • Are you sleeping at least 7-8 hours daily?
  • Brush teeth at least once a day, Massage the gums/teeth and rinse mouth before going to bed?
  • Do you eat meals at regular intervals (about same time everyday)?
  • Do you drink enough water between the meals?
  • Do you have a quality bowel movement at least once a day?
  • Are you aware of the dangers of smoking, drinking, and using drugs?
  • Do you take breaks and rest your eyes at least once every hour
  • between your reading/writing/using PC?
  • Do you have a family physician that you visit when sick or need checkup?
  • Can you shop for groceries, vegetables and fruits?
  • Prepare breakfast such as oatmeal, cream of wheat using microwave?
  • Prepare a simple meal such as salads, rice, lentils, ramen noodles and sandwich etc?
  • Sew on a button, trouser fold etc?
  • Can you air up a tire according to the vehicle specifications?
  • Check the oil level of the engine in a car?
  • Do you wear a seat belt while riding or driving a motor vehicle?
  • Driving skill on icy streets ( only applicable where it snows) ?
  • Know how to use a screwdriver and a hammer?
  • Are you a PC literate?
  • Do you follow proper Netiquette and e-mail etiquette while using the Internet?
  • Do you have the word processor, spreadsheet and Powerpoint skill set?
  • Can you build a basic resume and fill out a job application?
  • Plan and estimate a budget?
  • Write a check?
  • Know how to handle and plug electrical appliances?
  • Can you deal with angry people?
  • Do you exibit appropriate social skills while communicating with peers and others?
  • Help someone who is choking?
  • Turn off the water main valve to the house in an emergency?
  • Sort, wash, dry and fold laundry?
  • Wash dishes by using water and dish washing product judiciously?
  • Prepare a room and then paint it?
  • Say no to peers when under pressure to do things that may get you into trouble?
  • Show respect and humility to family elders and their friends?

How to eat (extracted from various sources of Indian Ayurvedic system) :

  • Try eating at regular intervals ( about same time every day).
  • Have your meals in a pleasant environment with little or no noise.
  • Do not eat when you are depressed or mentally upset.
  • Begin your meal with a prayer.
  • Eat freshly cooked food if possible along with a little portion of raw salads.
  • Chewing the food well is the most important part of a meal.
  • Consume food in modest quantity and Leave about 1/4 or 1/5 of the stomach empty to facilitate proper digestion.
  • Try eating healthy vegetarian diet with nutrition and if possible avoid processed food.
  • Consume clean water which is tepid or at room temperature, Half an hour before or after the meal. During meals you may sip little water to quench the thirst.
  • Take rest for about 10 minutes after the meal. After evening meal take a short walk instead of resting.
